Marketing mentorship
This week, we had our first meeting with Olga and Sagarika. I was also introduced to the other intern at Starmaster who, like me, is an RMIT student who is studying Digital Media! Jen is a very talented designer who specialises in environment and 3D design, as well as art therapy and UX/UI. We laughed about how we never crossed paths because of our different interests and subsequent choices in our courses.
Our meeting was fairly introductory, so we didn't have time to get into the details, but Olga offered to provide feedback on our individual projects. Jen is currently tasked with establishing a brandkit for Starmaster, because there isn't currently a set guide with all the important things like hex codes for the colour palette, font hierarchies, and logo requirements. As a team, we discussed the importance of consistency and a cohesive visual identity for the company. So once Jen has finished establishing the brandkit, I will be looking to use it as a guide for my own task of creating visual assets. In the future, the four of us will be meeting fortnightly to discuss our progress as a team as well as learning from Olga from her perspective as a marketing expert.
Business case opportunity
One really great point that Jen brought up in our meeting was the opportunity to use tools like Canva and Miro for our projects and collaborative tasks. In my weekly sync with Sagarika, she suggested that Jen and I both write up individual business cases to pitch the use of these platforms. This is an exciting opportunity that I have not applied in a real environment before; it would be very cool if Bruce ended up approving a paid subscription to one of these great tools. I've started researching the pros and cons of both Miro and Canva to evaluate which may be the better choice for the team.
Task progress
I have made some solid progress on the visual assets for the first and second modules. Still a long way to go, though!
Some of these assets are not too difficult because it just requires recreating charts and diagrams. I've mostly been challenged when it comes to designing assets with very technical details. These are details that take more time because I don't want to get them wrong (these are educational resources, so they need to be accurate). I found that some images may even be better represented as 3D models, and have suggested Jen possibly recreating some of these assets as they have a much more advanced skillset in 3D modelling than me. As I am still waiting on feedback from Bruce, I will make better use of my time by working on the 'easy' visual assets for now.
